Sarah here! It’s that time of the year again, for those beautiful family photos. Well, let’s be honest, the slightly dreaded family photos. As a mom of three boys, I’ve come to find things that have worked and things that don’t! Here are a few tips to help ease the stresses, and hopefully make the session a little more enjoyable.
Trying to keep the boys out of the dirt, outfits clean, and their attention for the longer sessions just doesn’t work. Last season we opted for the 30 minute session, and it was a dream.
Right after that great night of sleep, when most kiddos are feeling happy is the ideal time to capture those adorable smiles. The Golden Hour, which is a photographers ideal lighting for outdoor photography happens in the morning as well.
When picking out outfits for the family, Mom should pick out what makes her feel the most beautiful and confident first. Once she has her outfit down, get the rest of the family’s outfits together and coordinated.
The kids don’t all have to match, but it’s always a fun idea to coordinate their accessories. Shoes are a great way to do just that! Here are my holiday picks that are perfect for our family photos! My sons love these and these. And if I had a little girl, she’d definitely be in these!
Lastly, it’s a great idea to peruse other people’s family photos to get ideas for color schemes, backgrounds etc, positions you like. Screen shot some of the favorite photos that you see on your phone to show your photographer. Then you can re-create some of those ideas in your own families photo shoot.
